Pihama Lavender is a small boutique lavender grower. It supplies the raw ingredients for its own products and is a perfect backdrop for a shop, gallery and very special accommodation in the name of Punehu Stream Cottage.
Pihama Lavender was purchased by Liz Sinclair in 2013. The previous owners had done a wonderful job of developing the property. Liz has added to their vision and created boutique accommodation in what what the pump house of the original Dairy Factory. The lavender is magical and the gardens are charming. The shop and gallery add to these and will continue to draw another dimension to what is a fantastic site.Pihama Lavender offers respite for weary travellers. It offers inspiration for the creative amongst us. It offers solitude for those wanting time out from their busy schedule. It offers comfort for those wanting a decadent weekend as well as the perfect base for the adventurers amongst us who want to fish and surf and hike in the unparalleled beauty of South Taranaki.A range of lavender products are available for purchase. The pure oil and lavender spray mist are grown, distilled and bottled right here at Pihama Lavender.
The Lavender
The lavender grown at Pihama Lavender is one of the most reliable for the quality of its oil. It is lavendula augustofloria grosso. It is a small shrub witha lifespan of 7 to 10 years. After harvest each year it is pruned and lies quite dormant over the Winter. In spring it sends out only aromatic flower spikes with small purple bracts at the end. These are what are harvested for the oil.

What sets it apart is its magical surroundings. the fact that Pihama Lavender is a small farm that produces using organic practices. This is its niche. It has produced exceptional quality of oil in past years and aims to continue that standard.
